The Bonobo population is estimated to be 30,000 to 50,000 individuals left in the wilderness putting them as an endangered species.

There has been little research about the Bonobo chimpanzee due to its timidity with the political instability at the Democratic republic of Congo. The Bonobo chimpanzees are distinguished from the common chimpanzee by parted long hair on its head, their tail tuft, black face, pink lips and longer legs. Chimpanzee are divided into two species of Bonobo chimpanzees and Common chimpanzees, though they are similar they have some few differences according to habitat, size, some behaviors and diet. The Bonobo also known as dwarf or gracile chimpanzees and sometimes referred to as Pygmy chimpanzee, is a species of chimpanzee inhabiting the primary and secondary forests of the Congo area basin at the Democratic republic of Congo in Central Africa.
